McCartin Law PLLC is a law firm located in the Capital Region of New York, but it’s one that services the entire, larger Empire State, including the federal courts in New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton, and Utica. Michael G. McCartin covers each of the State court counties in the Capital Region and south, as well as the Northern, Southern, Eastern, and Western U.S. District Courts within the State.
Michael has been practicing law for more than 30 years, having worked as a JAG lawyer in the U.S. Navy, in the U.S. Department of Justice, and then, more recently, in the New York State Office of the Attorney General for more than 22 years.
Michael runs a general practice, full-service law firm that concentrates on civil rights and commercial litigation, personal injury law, trial practice, the defense of State employees in both Federal and State courts, FOIA and FOIL, among other areas of the law.

Litigation in Federal Court
National Institute for Family and Life Advocates, et al. v. NY AG James, WDNY No. 1:24-cv-00514-JLS

Hundreds and hundreds of healthy babies have been born with the life-saving help of a miracle drug called, progesterone. By initiating the Abortion Pill Reversal medication process, including by taking progesterone, mothers can embrace a culture of life.
Shamefully, now NY AG Tish James not only wants to ban this miracle medication, thereby taking away a woman’s right and freedom to CHOOSE LIFE for her baby in the womb. But AG James also wants to prevent doctors and nurses at pregnancy centers in New York State from even informing their patients of the existence of this life-saving miracle medicine.
AG James threatens to shutter the doors of these Pro-Life pregnancy centers, impose huge fines and fees on them, and even force the centers to pay the large attorneys’ fees of the government lawyers bullying these centers against adopting a Pro-Life stance.
Yet the plaintiffs in this lawsuit are fighting back against AG James’ aggressive, anti-life tactics. They are standing up for their Pro-Life religious beliefs, standing in favor of their God-given First Amendment rights to speak freely and honestly about progesterone to their patients.
This case is pending in the U.S. District Court in the Western District of New York before the Hon. John L. Sinatra, Jr. The Court is expected to render a decision on or before September 2024 related to the plaintiffs’ motion for a preliminary injunction that seeks to stop AG James in her tracks. The next major step in this litigation is a hearing at 10:30 AM on August 16, 2024, in Buffalo.
